WebM:
- Better for fast-moving content like high frame rate games or quick web animations, because the frame rate of WebM is dynamically adjusted based on the variation of the content.
- Usually smaller in size
MP4:
- Supported on almost all platforms
- Not good for fast-moving content like high frame rate games or quick web animations
You can set the default recording format from the interface of our Chrome extension.
If you report bugs, create regular educational videos, or record meetings, we recommend recording them directly in the MP4 format.
Note:
- For fast-moving content like high frame rate games or quick web animations, recording in MP4 directly may cause video content to have screen flickering, tearing, artifacts, or stuttering.
- For some videos, directly recording in MP4 may result in better quality than converting from WebM.
- If the platform does not support playing a video in the WebM format, the video can be converted to MP4. Typically, the quality loss from converting is minimal.
